Pipe-Cleaner Snowflake Ornament

Need a fun, easy-to-make project that will keep the kids busy? All you need to create these ornaments are wire cutters, needle-nose pliers (both for adults' use only), and pipe cleaners. They make great gifts for teachers, to adorn presents, or to hang from your tree.

What You'll Need

Wire cutter or pair of old scissors
Three 6-inch pieces of pipe cleaner, plus six 2 1/2-inch pieces, six 2-inch pieces, and six 1 1/2-inch pieces
Needlenose pliers

Pipe-Cleaner Snowflake Ornament How-To

1. Using a wire cutter or old scissors, cut three 6-inch pieces of pipe cleaner. Then cut six 2 1/2-inch pieces, six 2-inch pieces, and six 1 1/2-inch pieces.
2. Twist 6-inch pieces together at their midpoints to make a six-spoked asterisk. Tighten twist by clamping down with needlenose pliers.
3. Center one 2 1/2-inch piece at the midpoint of a spoke, and twist onto spoke. Tighten twist with needlenose pliers. Repeat on remaining 5 spokes.
4. About 1/2 inch from an arm attached in step 3 (toward spoke's tip), center one 2-inch piece, and twist onto spoke. Tighten twist with needlenose pliers. Repeat on remaining 5 spokes.
5. About 1/2 inch from an arm attached in step 4 (toward spoke's tip), center one 1 1/2-inch piece, and twist onto spoke. Tighten twist with needlenose pliers. Repeat on remaining 5 spokes. Trim arms if needed.
6. To hang, glue a loop of cord to the back of a spoke.

How cool is this

all you need to do is this:
You will need a canvas (any size)hot glue gunglue stick, a hair dryer, lots of crayons and newspaper.
Step 1: Pick out the colours you want to use and line them up until you run out of space or make it into a shape you want.Step 2: Using a glue gun, make a line of glue across the crayons (if you want a certain part showing, like the label, be careful to put the glue on the opposite side). Quickly place onto canvas in a line, as shown below, with tips facing down.
Step 3: Line your floor with newspaper, place the canvas against the wall, and get your blow dryin’ on. I started out on high and warm settings on mine, and alternated with low at certain points. You have to experiment a little to see how your hair dryer works with melting the wax. It sometimes splatters a little, so be sure to cover the floor and surrounding wall, and turn to a lower setting if needed.

That's all you need to do, and in the end you will end up with a really cool piece of artwork.
Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's an idea that is great for a present or for yourself.
Making soaps is a really good idea. I have found this really good website that teaches you to make soap and it is really easy to understand, I have foud some really nice to make. Here are the links...
http://www.candletech.com/soap-making/watermelon-soaps/
http://www.candletech.com/soap-making/cookie-cutter-soaps/
http://www.craftbits.com/project/creamy-chocolate-soap

For the cookie cutter soaps you need a fragrance so here is a link for a wild berry fragrance which is my favourite fragrance and I think it is the best fragrance for soap.

Check these out, if you want to make them you will need to but them online but I made them an gave them to my friends and they absolutely loved them so it is definitely worthwhile.

  • Interesting paper (ie maps, sheet music, wrapping paper or wallpaper)
  • Buttons (optional)
  • Lace (optional)

  • Sewing machine (optional)
  • Needle and thread

What you need to do is...

  1. Trace your templates onto paper (dress front, dress back and pocket) and cut them out.
  2. Draw around the dress front and back templates on a paper of your choice and cut them out.
  3. Now draw around the pocket template onto a contrasting paper and cut it out.
  4. Pin the pocket and any other details, such as lace trims, onto the separate pieces of the dress.
  5. Sew these in place, using either hand or machine stitch.
  6. Pin the front and back of the dress together and stitch along the two sides.

Here's another idea that looks good in any part of the house.
A Bonsai Forest. You know those small Japanese tree forests in  pot.

This is what you need:
-suitable trees (a group planting should consist of different sizes of trees, a few tall ones for in the middle and several smaller ones to plant on the sides. Use trees mostly growing upright, as the composition could look unnatural)
-a large and quite shallow pot
-soil mixture of akadama, fine gravel and potting compost mixed together

  1. Cut several pieces of copper wire (about 10 cm or 4’’ long) and attach these to the pot using the drainage holes or with waterproof glue (The wires will be used to anchor the roots and stabilize the composition of trees)
  2. To provide for a good drainage, fill the bottom layer of the pot with fine gravel and akadama in a ratio of ½ to ½.
  3. Now prepare the trees by removing any dead branches and removing the lower branches to create a trunk (till about 1/3 of the tree’s height). Take the trees out of their pots and after having removed the soil, carefully disentangle the roots.
  4. Place the taller trees somewhat out of the middle in the pot  and add smaller trees around them, when you are satisfied with the composition of the group planting, carefully use the copper wires to anchor the trees.
  5. Use the prepared soil mixture to fill the pot and cover all the roots
  6. Water thoroughly and then use some moss to cover the surface, to prevent erosion.

Here's a good idea that looks good in any part of the house. A magical forest in a jar.
All you need is...
  •  a glass bowl (small fish bowl or flower vase)
  •  potting soil (you probably only need 1 litre)
  •  moss
  •  small pebbles
  •  decorations such as model pine trees, model moss, décor gravel, an animal
This is what you need to do...
  1. open the bag of soil and pour the soil into the jar about one fifth to one quarter full
  2. wet the soil with a little bit of water to make the soil moist and fertile
  3. scatter a small layer of pebbles on the soil, make sure you scatter enough so you don't see any of the soil
  4. spread chunks of moss around but leave a narrow strip of pebble to make a pebble path
  5. add in the decorations, like rocks, trees, mushrooms, even animals
There it is, a beautiful Magical Forest in a Jar in five simple steps

Here is an example that someone else has done...

If you collect postcards or like to remember where you been to, than this is a great idea for you simple to do. Simply bind the postcards. its as this.

  1. get postcards (doesn't matter is they are written on or not)
  2. punch holes in them (preferably using a hole puncher)
  3. line them up and put them in order
  4. cut up pieces of ribbon or string long enough to be threaded through and tied in a knot (doesn't matter what type or what colour)
  5. thread the ribbon or string through the hole and tie a knot
Extra Tip:
If you don't like the idea of having a o postcard as the first thing you see. create a title page (the size of the postcards of course)
Have fun!!!!!!!

Here's something to do if you like to write stories or poems
it's called a 'Sonnet', it's something that has been alive since Shakespeare's time.
A sonnet is like a poem that has a rhythm to it, the rhythm is like a heart beat rhythm (dee dum dee dum)

A sonnet goes to something called an iambic pentameter, this means that there a 5 stressed syllables and 5 unstressed syllables. (dee dum dee dum dee dum dee dum dee dum)

Shakespeare usually wrote sonnets about love or nature.
I've created my own sonnet to give you guys an idea of a sonnet.

Theme is: Nature

The breeze wisps up against my cheekThe trees leaves rustle in the windwhen the blue birds fly high up above it is not bleakAnd the balance of nature boggles my mindThe animals are creeping and crawling everywhereThe flowers in the meadows smell so sweetwhen I breathe in the aroma It feels like Im up in the airWhen Im amongst the valleys it sure is a treatThe wind whistles to me and tells me secretsThe clouds comfort me when I am asleepAnd we sing together and perform a duetThe view is so beautiful it makes me weepBut all good things must come to an end I always remember that nature is my friend

I have a great, creative idea involving jewellery, money and memories.
It's a 'Coin Charm Bracelet' it's a great idea for remembering the places you have been to.
All you have to do is get a plain bracelet and get jewellers to put the coins on. when it's done it's a great thing to wear and it reminds you of all the different places you have been to.

Hey there!
I've got lots of great creative ideas for you. Each post I put up will have something different you can try. The activities I put up won't be very hard they are also something you can do with friends.
